Cc: Pinki Ghosh <pinki@fas.org.in>, Sandipan Baksi <sandipan@fas.org.in>My Review of Nikita's Laptop:
The laptop takes 15 minutes to boot up, the battery is dead, and the keyboard is not responding properly. Additionally, when using the browser, the screen sometimes crashes, and there is no response from the browser.
My Suggestion:
If we want to use the system for another year or more, we need to replace the battery and the keyboard. We have already replaced the keyboard once, and it’s not worth investing more money into this system.

On Thu, Aug 22, 2024 at 4:42 PM Coordinator, Review of Agrarian Studies <coordinator@ras.org.in> wrote:Dear Pinki,As discussed, I have listed below some issues with my laptop that I am continuing to face.- Despite the replacement of the keyboard, some keys have issues. For example, "a", "g", "space bar" often don't get pressed on first attempt and require extra force. Most of my work requires typing. These keys malfunctioning can lead to me adding an error inadvertently.
- When more than 4-5 tabs are opened in Chrome, the screen crashes, turns black, and flashes. This issue takes quite some time to resolve on its own.
- The computer takes a long time to boot. So if I come to office at 9, it is already 9:15 or later by the time my laptop is able to open Chrome and other required applications.
- It requires direct charge these days. The battery is dead. So if I want to show my work or go for a meeting with my laptop, it will have to be restarted and it will take 10 minutes or more at the least.
--The following are the applications/features I require for my work:- MS Office Suite 21
- Adobe Reader/any pdf reader, preferably allows editing
- Google Chrome Suite
- Windows 10 or more
- Canva, MS Clipchamp, Photoshop, other tools to create graphics for social media
- A good, comfortable keyboard
- Optimum brightness and display settings - allowing visibility in different settings, limits strain on eyes
- Good battery life - so it can go without charging for some hours.
- Plenty of storage space - since all of the EC's work is here.
I am sharing the link to my current personal laptop whose configurations and settings have been conducive to editing work. Even then, screen visibility in bright environments can be improved further. Since this laptop would be used for a long time, one with features more advanced than the current requirements would be best. With thanks and regards,Nikita

Hi All,I’m writing to provide you with a comparison document for the new server machine purchase. The document outlines the key differences and advantages between the options we’re considering.

Re: FAS - Server/PC Comparison
Dear Rahul,
Thank you for your email.
We have reviewed your recommendation. By comparison, we understand that you are recommending an AMD-assembled machine for our main server. We are fine with this. However, we have some questions.
1. Each component of the assembled machine has a specific warranty period. Will the vendor handle the replacement or repair if any issues arise within the warranty period?
2. In case of a failure of any component within the warranty period, who will be responsible for restoring the data or operating system on the new server?
3. The quotation includes a "Yearly Annual Service Contract" costing Rs. 3540 (including taxes). Does this mean the vendor will provide service if there are any hardware issues? Is the annual service contract necessary?
4. Since all components come with a 2 to 3-year warranty, who will provide support once the warranty period ends?
I am sorry if some of these questions are basic, but clarification would be helpful. If you have any questions, let us discuss them tomorrow morning. We can discuss these points in detail.

Hi Rahul,
Below mentioned are the answers to your queries.1. We will provide support during the warranty period of the components used. But there will be charges for the service.2. We will not take responsibility for the data loss, you need to have a setup to take data backup in regular intervals. But we can assist in getting the data back.3. Yearly Annual Service contract is optional, not mandatory. If opted, we will not charge for warranty claims during the warranty period. And if not opted, we will charge for the diagnosis and replacement process of the components during warranty.4. We will continue to provide support even after warranty period on chargeable basis. With Warm Regards

5. No Warranty Extension: Warranty extensions are not possible for any of the components used in building the PC.
6.
